The Evolution of an Award

As the Organizing Awards have evolved in the six years that they have been held – from a small gathering of organizers at a restaurant to an all-out red carpet event – so have the awards themselves.

At the inaugural event in 2006, held at Maggiano’s at the Grove in Los Angeles, winners received a certificate encased in a frame. Simple and classy.

2006 Volunteer of the Year, Deborah Kawashima

The following year, the award underwent a slight redesign. The frame stayed the same, but the certificate got a new look.

2007 Best Educational Resource, Sheila Delson on behalf of the National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization (now the Institute for Challenging Disorganization)

The 2008 awards saw a change in venue (the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel) and the introduction of a celebrity host (Sherry Shepherd of The View). With all that change, how could the award stay the same? Once again, the certificate was redesigned.

In 2009, the award underwent a major change. The framed certificate that winners had come to expect was replaced with an acrylic trophy. Still simple. Still classy.

2009 Most Innovative Organizer & Leading Edge Award, John Trosko

Aside from some logo changes in 2010 and 2011, the award remained the same.

But this year, the award will undergo another redesign. What will it look like? That has yet to be determined. What we do know is that the recipients won’t be disappointed.
