With less than 30 days left until The 7th Annual Organizing Awards, what better way to get excited about the big day (Jan. 26!) than by looking back at those who have taken the coveted trophy again and again through the years?

Eleven organizers, businesses and organizations are in the Organizing Awards Hall of Fame (well, if we had one) for having won more than once in the same category.

The two-timers are:

Threepeaters:

  • California Closets, “Best Closet Design Firm” (nominated AGAIN this year)
  • Jean Furuya, “Best Organizer as Coach or Mentor”
  • NAPO National Conference, “Most Valuable Educational Resource”
  • OrganizIT!, “Best Garage Design Firm” (also nominated this year)
  • Real Simple Magazine, “Best Publication Featuring Organizational Information” (with another nomination this year)

High fives to:

  • From 2006 to 2010, the award for “Most Supportive or Organizer-Friendly Charity” belonged to the National Council of Jewish Women. Will they win it again this year?
  • And it should come as no surprise that The Container Store has also taken the prize for “Best Organizing Product Retailer” five times! Yes, it’s that good. So good that it’s nominated again this year.

We may be days away from the presidential election, but if you’re a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers, your voting obligation doesn’t end there.

Voting for The 7th Annual Organizing Awards is underway and as a member of NAPO, it’s your right – dare I say, it’s your obligation – to express your opinion on who or what you consider as the best in our industry. So flex your voting muscles!

The nomination process for the coveted Organizing Awards is now underway and open to the public – 24 categories, 24 opportunities to see to it that your favorites in the industry are recognized. And in keeping with the changes in the industry, this year we’ve added six new awards!

Here are the categories:

  • Best Organizing Product Retailer: Favorite source for purchasing organizing products (catalog, website or retail store).
  • Best Closet Design Firm: Firm offering the highest quality design and construction services for functional, custom closet systems while maintaining a sense of style and exceptional customer service.

  • Best Green Organizing Service: An individual organizer or organizing firm that offers a service with extraordinary environmental sensitivity.
  • Best Chronic Disorganization Expert*: An individual organizer or organizing firm providing exceptional service and support to the chronically disorganized.
  • Best Photo/Memorabilia Organizer*: An individual or company focused on creating memorable lifelong solutions by preserving and transforming memories through photo organization and/or updating multimedia.
  • Philanthropy Award: An individual organizer, organizing firm or NAPO Chapter that has gone above and beyond the call of duty with contributions of time, leadership or financial support in service of an organizing project benefiting the public.
  • Best National Television Show Incorporating Organizing: Favorite national television program showcasing professional organizers and/or organizing processes/techniques. Must have aired new episodes since October 2010.
  • Best National Television Series, Special or Episode Featuring Organizing: Favorite national television series, special or episode that best educates the public about organizing, the organizing process and the organizing industry. Must have aired new episodes since October 2010.
  • Best Organizing Book: Favorite book exhibiting organizing principles, methods and concepts with a copyright date of October 2010 or later.
  • Best Publication Featuring Organizational Information: Favorite magazine or publication (paper or electronic) dedicated to sharing and teaching organizing principles, methods and concepts to the public.
  • Best Organizing Website or Blog: Favorite website or blog providing and teaching organizing principles, methods and concepts to the public.
  • Most Valuable Educational Resource: Favorite class, workshop or other educational resource contributing most significantly to the education of professional organizers.
  • Most Innovative Organizer: The professional organizer who is blazing trails within the industry in terms of his or her business structure, website, products or services.
  • Most Supportive or Organizer-Friendly Charity: Favorite charity to donate goods to based on either the quality of their service to those making donations or their effective reuse/repurposing of goods for maximum benefit.

*New categories for 2012

Up to five finalists will be selected in each category based on how well each nominee fits the description and his/her/its overall impact in the organizing industry/community.

Nominations will close at 11:59 p.m. PST on July 27. Voting will begin at 12:01 a.m. PST on August 10 and will close at 11:59 p.m. PST on  September 21 – giving us just enough time to get the awards ordered for the big event!

The committees are formed, the date and location have been set and the search for the perfect dress has begun – yes, indeed, the organizing of the 2012 Organizing Awards is underway!

The event, which was started in 2006 by the Los Angeles chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers, recognizes the best in the organizing industry – including, but not limited to, professional organizers, charities, publications, products and TV shows.
